Species StandardsPreferred Habitat: Bodies of water. Their breed name specifies what KIND of water environment they prefer. The Lake and River variety are freshwater, and the Sea and Abyss variety are saltwater. Diet: Mostly fish. Unfortunately, similar to sharks, they will eat just about anything that they can swallow — be it organic or not. It is always amazing to dissect one to find the contents of its stomach containing everything from fish bones to pieces of ancient armor to car wheels. Call: This creature makes three very distinct noises. One of which (before they get old) reminds one of a dolphin's high pitched "squee" noise, and the other (during all stages of life) would remind one of a whale... an angry whale perhaps, because this creature's "song" is not so much a pleasant one, but one that is more rasp. And no doubt the most frightening sound can only be heard by the old Pliathor... the mighty roar of the beast if and when it surfaces. Special Care Needs: These creatures need to be in water constantly. If they remain out of water for very long, their own body weight will crush their heart. This creature also cannot hear the pitch that a normal voice gives off, so training is difficult (if not impossible) without the aid of a "captain's whistle". Biology and Anatomy: Using their long, snakelike bodies, they can swim easily through their preferred habitats, staying underwater for incredibly long amounts of time, only emerging for air once every hour or two. The fins along their bodies help aid their propulsion through the water, but due to their small size in comparison to the rest of the body, the tail does much of the work, and they swim much like a common sea snake. The spikes along their bodies can damage any predator bold enough to actually come near them (usually other Pliathor if they happen to get into a fight) but it's their huge mouths that catch prey — those fangs may not look big compared to the rest of them, but they sure are sharp! Having six eyes allows them to see greater areas along the sides of their heads, except in the case of the blind Abyss, but it's not recommended you try to surprise them by heading towards that blind spot right in front of them. Behavioral Study: Surfacing often for air (with the exception of the Abyss breed, which rarely sees the surface), these creatures have a fascination with boats... Unfortunately for the un-tamed creatures, this fascination is not a playful one, and they often cause many shipwrecks. Suggested Uses: A grand "water monster"... These creatures were not designed to be kept as pets, though it has been proven that it is possible to tame and train them. |

Ghost: Not only is the "Ghost" Pliathor a quarter of the size of its species brethren (making it quite small — at their old stage, they're the size of an adult regular Pliathor) — they're also quite sensitive to light, and only prefer the deepest waters to help the pressure on their bodies. Without a lot of pressure, they may fall apart! On top of that, their coloring is quite unique — you can see right through them! It's rather awesome to count all their bones, and watch their heart beating. However, despite their name, they're very much alive... just transparent, like an x-ray fish. |
